No
facts or figures can ever adequately convey the heart of why Team HEAL
is important. What does Team HEAL mean to the kids? A high school junior
severely injured his knee during a football game. Through Team HEAL, Dr.
Shields reconstructed his knee, free of charge. The young man was able
to return to his team and play during his senior year. Back at peak performance,
he earned a college football scholarship. "The boy waited for me
in my office on Christmas Eve to give me a Christmas card," Dr. Shields
recalls. "He told me, 'It's the only thing I can give you now to
thank you, but I will make you proud.' When he graduated from college,
he sent me a copy of his diploma." Yes, Team HEAL does make a difference!
Team HEAL continues to support these kids
and their determination to not only enjoy competition, but to see themselves
living a life where violence and complacency is not acceptable. It is
the benevolence and sense of responsibility embodied in the founder and
supporters of Team HEAL that is making a difference, not just for the
kids, but for us all.
Lesser Incidence of Injuries:
Since the inception of Team HEAL, results
have been incredible. On-site trainers are actively involved in all phases
of the school athletic programs. Relatively few kids have sustained major
injuries due to proper conditioning, fitness training, and injury management.
This is all made possible by Team HEAL.
Before Team HEAL, medical care for an injured
kid, even if minor, often resulted in serious physical and social consequences.
Fortunately, Team HEAL's commitment enables these tragedies to be averted.
